What a beautiful city. Too bad I was only there for 3
days. I did release 3 books. Hope to get journal
entries soon. During our conference training the
presenters had drawings to make sure everyone showed
up/came back on time. If your name was called and you
weren't there... too bad. You only got one chance. And
guess who had her name called and won the only
giveaway that was a book? Me, me, me!!! Far-out!
Bookcrosser wins book! The author was there to talk
about her book and her career with the Dept. of
Justice, Interpol and international extradictions of
fugitives. Her name is Mary Jo Grotenrath and the book
is The Interpol Imbroglio. She autographed the book
and I had our picture taken together while she signed
it (on my journal entry) She was a delight to listen
to and very funny. On the first page of her
acknowledgments she wrote: "Inasmuch as I wrote the
first few sentences of this book on my brand-new
laptop computer before midnight on January 31, 1999, I
can honestly represent that it took two centuries to
write."
While in beautiful, rainy Portland, I took the Max and
practically ran to Powell's. Once inside I was giddy!!
What a super-duper marvelous bookstore. I bought two
books on my wishlist and a t-shirt. And Portland
airport has two Powell's and I bought books again in
each of them. I came home with Fast Food Nation: The
Dark Side of the All-American Meal by Eric Schlosser;
Whispers at Midnight by Karen Robards; Horse Heaven by
Jane Smiley; and Under and Alone: The True Story of
the Undercover Agent Who Infiltrated America's Most
Violent Outlaw Motorcycle Gang by William Queen.
Those who have been to Portland know what a great city
it is. Those who haven't been there... go soon!
