The main thing about starting a bookring is to do it with a book you
won't be upset about if you don't get it back.  Otherwise you will
always be worried when it slows down.  If it's a book you are very fond
of the only other option is to buy 2 copies.  My attitude toward
excluding certain BC'er is that I don't really have the time to do all
the looking around and as the last poster pointed out, it's not a set in
stone guarantee anyway.  I sign up all that ask to be on the ring, make
up some sort of logical order, put the book in the post and forget about
it, at least for awhile.  I did have one ray that it had been 2 months
since I had any word of it.  So I wrote to the person that said they had
mailed it on to find out the date they had mailed to see if it might be
lost.  The person got back to me right away and wouldn't know that the
next day the book finally arrived at it's destination.  It had been sent
surface from UK to Canada and that's just how long it takes.  
 
And as the other poster said, if it's not going to be fun for you, don't
do it.  Personally I like all the organizing stuff, but then I might be
a tad on the "different" side.
