A "PM" is a private message. It is a way to contact (email) a bookcrosser
through the bookcrossing site. On everyone's bookshelf there is a link to click
and send that BCer a message. This is an option that the bookcrosser either has
enabled or not. It is directly beneath the box of of stats. My city is about
250K. When I search for BCers in Modesto, CA the site says that there are 157
bookcrossers, with links to their bookshelves. For example:

What is PM? Is that something that would be more
efficient than simply emailing each of them? In
any case, thanks for the response - and for being
frank. May I ask how big your city is (from what
size pool you draw overall)?
