Welcome to BookCrossing, Irene! Authors are more than welcome to release their own books on BookCrossing - in fact, it's encouraged! The only self-promotion-type things I'd take umbrage with are when the authors sign up under different names and give themselves rave reviews without admitting that they wrote the books, or when they sign up only to post "read my book!" messages in the forums but do not otherwise register books or participate in forum discussions. Anyone who's participating in the site can most definitely mention their own books - in fact, BCer TexasWren is maintaining a list of BookCrossing authors on her site ( http://www.texaswren.com/ ), as many BCers like to try out the works of other BCers. And an author's offering one of his or her own books for a book ring is a great way to get a bit of exposure for the book - many BCers write book reviews in other places as well as here. Since Irene's post in this newsgroup was an invitation to request a copy of the book it seems perfectly in keeping with BC practice to me. -GoryDetails See the books I've set free at: http://bookcrossing.com/referral/GoryDetails ------------------------ Yahoo!
