If I am giving a book directly to someone either in person or by mail, I release it as a Controlled Release. I don't know how these are figured into my release numbers, but my estimation is that I do about as many controlled releases as I do wild releases.
IMHO, no one should be listing a book as released in the wild if they are giving it to someone specifically. They should always use the controlled release option for that.
