I found this essay so captivating..... she was a telling story that almost
mirrored mine.
When I was about 13 we moved to So. Florida. About that time John Jakes
started writing his series "The Kent Family Chronicles" starting with "The
Bastard". Whoooooo.... My mom bought the book and "caught" me reading it
whenever she laid it down. After that we had a rule. I could read "her" books
after she finished them. It was fun to later discuss the books with her. I also
got my young hands on Harold Robbins. I blushed a lot through those books.

Blue eye shadow? You betcha. But it belonged to my stepmother. Got away with
wearing that on "every other weekend."

Last June I traveled out-of-state to Portland, OR for a three day seminar.
Sitting in the hotel restaurant/bar I was poring over the downtown map to get
my bearings. The manager came over and asked if he could help. I asked him to
show me the fastest way to Powell's bookstore. I spent every free moment there.
I almost missed my flight home because I found a Powell's in the airport.

I most definitely will be buying this book.

  Books......... my drug of choice.
