		       In the calendar Mothering Sunday always takes the place of the fourth Sunday of Lent. Although often referred to as Mother’s Day, it has no cultural connection with the American day of the same name. Its origin is believed to be in the historical tradition of domestic servants getting the day off to visit their mothers. They would spoil their mothers with flowers or the typical simnel cake, a fruit cake with marzipan. Although celebrated during Lent, the fasting rules were relaxed on this Sunday, which is why it was also called Refreshment Sunday
