I recently read a book I feel compelled to recommend to everybody. It's called One Nation Under God, and it's by Vincent M. Wales.
It's about how the US, in the near future, has become a Christian theocracy, and the only thing that saves us from the extreme positions of the puppet masters (who resemble extreme versions of Robertson and Dobson) are an underground 'blogger' who manages to keep his site from being shut down, and the President's young daughter who comes to realize that people who are atheists, or gay, or whatever are not necessarily sick or wrong. It's pretty intense, without being overly graphic. The author's ideas brought out from me both anxiety and hope. And there was just the right sprinkling of love and even laughter to make me be able to finish it without getting nightmares. I'm passing my first copy around my friends and family here. My bf, who has more conservative political and religious views than I, was also appalled - especially because he agrees that the author makes it plain how feasible it is that this theocracy could come to pass, and how close to losing our freedoms of speech and association we are. I'm seriously considering getting another copy to send out on a book ring. Could I please have a show of hands who's interested and has time to read it and pass it on? It's a fairly quick read, and told in an interesting manner as there's no narration - it's all journal entries, letters, newsletters, 'blogs' and newspaper articles, etc. [EMAIL PROTECTED] LLR Cheryl Share books, share fun!
