Hi, Lillya - and all you other newbies out there!

Yes, BookCrossing is about registering and labeling your no-longer-
wanted books and then leaving them somewhere for others to find - and
while not all of those books get journaled by the finders, many do,
even though it may be months or years later. And even the books that
remain unjournaled are usually in someone's hands and may be heard
from eventually. [Note: each BC book should be registered only once,
to generate a unique BCID for it; after that it should be journaled,
not registered. Never tell someone to register a BC book that's
already got a BCID - it'll just confuse everybody!]

Some BCers do share their books with others by mail, though that's an
optional part of the site and the majority of members probably don't
even know that it exists. I find that it's fun to do a little
trading, but I also do a lot of wild-releasing - after all, the wild
releases are more likely to introduce new people to the site!

Here are some pages that help explain BookCrossing, including how to
get started:

http://www.bookcrossing.com/home - on the BookCrossing home page,
scroll down a bit to the "Three R's of BookCrossing" section for the
basics on registering, labeling, and releasing books.

http://www.bookcrossing.com/faqs - This is the site's "frequent
questions" section.

http://www.texaswren.com - This is a very helpful site set up by
BookCrosser TexasWren, including a BookCrossing FAQ that addresses
many of the optional ways BookCrossers share books, including the
suggested etiquette for asking or offering trades.

You can also take a look at the Newbies forum (
http://www.bookcrossing.com/forum/1 ), where other frequent questions
are often addressed. And Site Watch, where people report some of the
interesting, amusing, and/or touching catches they've seen.

Hope you enjoy BookCrossing,
