The Back of the Book

Bristol, the 1960s, and young Fifi Brown defies her parents to marry a man
they think is beneath her ...

Determined to follow her heart, Fifi moves with Dan to London, where they
rent a seedy flat in Dale Street, Kennington. Shocked by the squalor yet
exhilarated by her freedom, Fifi is curious to know what goes on behind
her neighbours' shabby front doors.

One family holds particular fascination. The infamous Muckles from number
11 terrorize the neighbourhood and scandalize the street with rumours of
criminal depravity. When Fifi tries to help the Muckles' youngest child,
she risks not only her marriage and her family but the lives of all the
inhabitants of Dale Street.
