The Back of the Book The My Friend books tell the story of Janet Sandison, of her Highland family, and of the fascinating and varied friends who shaped her life. Janet Sandison was still a child when she first met Flora Bedamned at the village school in 1915. The Bedamneds weren't too downtrodden then, for Flora's mother was still alive. But when Mrs Bedamned died, Flora became the drudge of the family, looking after a surly mean-spirited father and several younger children. Throughout the years Janet and her family tried to improve the miserable lot of Flora, but in the end it was Flora who brought unexpected happiness to Reachfar.
