Hi, Nisaba! You can find out more about the most common uses of the status codes in this entry from the "frequent questions" page on the BookCrossing site: http://www.bookcrossing.com/faqs#26
A "controlled release" means giving or sending a book to a known individual rather than leaving it for whoever happens to find it (that's a "wild release"). Controlled releases include handing a book to a family member or friend, mailing one to another BookCrosser, or even sending a book out for trade via one of the trading sites such as Paperbackswap.com. The site instructions say that you should use journal entries to explain controlled releases, rather than making release notes. [Some people prefer to make release notes for any books that leave their possession, even controlled releases. If you want to do this, please start the release-note process for the controlled releases by selecting the "Controlled Release" item from the "Country" list rather than choosing an actual country/state/city; that way the release notes for those books will not appear in the city-level "go hunting" pages and won't trigger useless release-alert emails. But, IMO, the journal-entry method for controlled releases is the simplest!] You might also want to look through the BookCrossing FAQ on TexasWren's site ( http://www.texaswren.com/ ), which has lots of additional info about BookCrossing. -GoryDetails Books just wanna be FREE!
