Definitely agree about not leaving books lying around in airports, 
especially inside the security areas; it's not just that they might 
be destroyed but they might actually cause a security alert that 
could delay flights or even shut down the airport. So: leave no 
unattended items! 

However, some of the airport lounges for business-class or other 
flight-club travelers might have book-swap shelves or magazine racks 
where books could be left; worth asking the attendants if it's OK. 
And if you're on the plane you can offer books to seatmates or to the 
flight attendants, either with the full BookCrossing explanation or 
just "I've finished this, would you like it?" 

Or just hang on to the books 'til you get to your destination and 
find some safer release spots there!
