G'dday. I know the website actively discourages us from setting free magazines, on the basis that they're only just (if that) books, and they're too softbound to withstand too much travel, but I'm really considering releasing one.
It's A4 size, and bound with a hard cardboard cover, making it much like a large paperback in durability. Does that make it sound more acceptable for release? Its interest is what makes me want to release it - I haven't actually read it, but I've held onto it for the seven or eight years I've had it for several reasons. It's a 1978 (yes, you heard me right!) edition of the "Scientific American", which has great credibility where I am, and on a science list where I spend a lot of cybertime. Being a 1978 edition, it has ties with me, because even though I only got it a few years back (off a doctor's waiting table), 1978 was the first uyear that I really had masses of fun, it was my first year in university, it was the year I first contracted the herpes simplex virus, it was the year I moved out of my parents' place, dadadada. I liked that year for all kinds of reasons. The science in it, which was cutting-edge and controversial at the time, has either become boring-establishment, or discredited in the decades since, which makes for interesting reading if you have some layman's idea of where science is at the moment. And hte photography! Well, what can I say? When I was a teenager in 1978, contemporary magazine photography looked perfectly ordinary. Now it looks dated and revolting. It's a great magazine, and it's about time other people enjoyed it again. What do you think - should I release it? And maybe ironically release it exactly where I found it?
