There have been many reports of slowdowns on the site over the last 
week or so, but the symptoms seem to vary; some people can read the 
forums without any trouble but find the system too slow to make 
release notes, while others can release books but can't register them, 
and still others have not noticed any particular problems at all. 

If you have not changed your browser, security settings, or your 
service provider recently, then it's probably some combination of site 
load and, perhaps, other internet load as well, though it's hard to 
pin down. Try checking the site at different times of day to see if 
performance is better. And you may want to try using the plaintext 
version of the site, which does less formatting of each page (though 
it still pulls up the same data). To try that, go to 
http://plaintext.bookcrossing.com (or just replace the "www" in any 
BookCrossing URL with "plaintext"). 

If you still can't access the site, or if you get on but are noticing 
that it's very slow, please let people know. If you can get to 
the "contact us" page on the site ( 
http://www.bookcrossing.com/contact ), use that to submit a support 
issue, including as much information as you have about how long you've 
had a problem, how serious it is (slowdowns vs. can't get on at all), 
what times of day you've tried, what browser(s) you've tried, etc. [If 
you can't get to the site at all, you could post the info here with a 
request for someone to pass it along.]

I don't know whether there's a lot that can be done to improve 
performance, but at least with more information it could help indicate 
how serious the problem is getting.
