The Back of the Book

Old Letitia Cutbush, fiercely independent and insufferably rude, will
accept help only from Rosy Weeks, stable 'lad' up at Brood House, where
the old woman once reigned supreme. Under her grandson Jeremy, the stable
has now become a second-rate yard, but Rosy dreams of seeing it return to
its former glory. She also harbours a secret love for Jeremy, whose
interest in her is aroused when Letitia leaves her a painting worth more
than the entire stables.

But Rosy's overriding interest is in Roly Fox, her beloved 'chaser, whose
career and life are threatened when he is sold to a betting man who cares
more about his own pocket than the horses who run for him.
