Welcome to your next addiction! >I live in SW MO and <grin> I have no idea where that is. I'm in Australia, and for any Americans present, I'd like to say that I live within 20 miles or so of Wyoming. Australia, Wyoming. Australia, Wyoming. All true. >have a LARGE library of my own. <grin> That's soon fixed. It'll get smaller as you weed out first the inferior books to feed your addiction, then the okay books that you're unlikely to read again...This is about the stage my addiction is at currently. I, too, have (had?) a large personal library: five full (but rapidly emptying) bookcases line a "spare" bedroom, so what with that and the computer, I couldn't possibly squeeze another person in the house. >I have been taking my used books and >trading them in to the used book stores in exchange for more books. I >figured "releasing" them into the wild might be fun as well! It's much *more* fun, in fact! > >Let me know how BC has worked for you Well, I don't smoke any more, and my friends reckon I'm boring because all I can talk about it bookcrossing, so it's obviously a very positive influence in my life. And twice I've yodelled on the list for a book and it's turned up in my letter-box later, so that's always good. (The down-side is that sometimes someone else wants a book you have, so you're always posting things away, but the upside of that downside is that you always get journal entries, which is lovely...) >...any tips, comments, etc. would >be much appreciated. * When you make "release notes", don't be hampered by locations already on the system local to you. Plan on leaving books wherever you want them, and insert new bookcrossing zones. The more the merrier. * Go to "members" and look up "Skyring". He will inspire you to make wet-releases, glacial releases etc. I'm starting to lose count of the carefully wrapped books I've dropped into seas, lakes, ferries etc. Odd releases are good. * Themed releases are also good. I've been known to release books on herbs in fruit and veg shops, books on fishing holidays on seafood fridges, crime fiction on police station reception desks. An hour or two ago I released a heap of children's books in a school playground, and *just* got out of there as the bell rang for lunch. Which brings me to: * Nisaba's game. I make a game of it. I lo-o-ove to release books in crowds or around people (even in taxis etc), without being seen. I once even had an official appointment with a government agency, and I fiddled around with my bag on the floor as we spoke, and the official didn't realise I'd "accidentally" dropped a book until well after I was out of the office. Priceless. Have fun with it. * Don't worry if you don't seem to get any catches for a while. I didn't get any for weeks, and I was getting quite despondent, until another local bookcrosser deliberately hunted down two of my books to give me two catches in one day. That lifted my spirits, and since then, my books have semi-regularly been logged in by random people all over the place. * And don't think your unrecorded releases are unappreciated. I released two books in the foyer of a friend's block of flats: he swooped on one, and left the other. The other has consistently been seen by him, being picked up and returned by other residents. They haven't logged it, and no matter how much I bully him, he hasn't logged his catch either, but they're both still in circulation. And have fun. If you're going to try a highly addictive practice, at least make sure you enjoy it. Nisaba000 _________________________________________________________________ Advertisement: Fresh jobs daily.
