BookCrossing does have a category for e-books, though I'm not sure
whether it was added deliberately or was part of a basic category
list. Since an e-book could be a shareable file on a public site such
as Project Gutenberg, it doesn't make a lot of sense to register
that, as it can't be physically tagged and doesn't physically travel,
but some folks have opted to register e-books and make the BCID
available to those who ask.
E-books that are on physical media can certainly be registered,
labeled, and BookCrossed - but there have been cases of people making
illegal copies of such things and trying to BC those, and as
BookCrossing does NOT condone illegal activity, that's always
something I try to remind people about when the subject comes up. If
you make a legal copy of an e-book - either one that's in the public
domain or that you bought under terms-and-conditions that allow you
to make a copy for use by others - or if you bought an original copy
and that's the one you are passing along, then it's perfectly fine;
but if someone makes or has gotten hold of a pirated copy then it is
NOT fine. We certainly don't want people thinking that BookCrossing
encourages book-piracy!
So: if your e-books are legal copies, they're fine; if not, please
don't register them on BC.
Hope that clears things up!
