Gaim (now Pidgin) and Kopete are another two that you can use. These both are open source and free to use.
Gaim/Pidgin works in Windows and Linux and Kopete is Linux only. They both connect to Yahoo, MSN, AIM, ICQ, Jabber (G-talk) and IRC. They're easy to set up and use.
