I never read "The Red Tent" but my sister did and didn't love it either. That said, I did enjoy "The Birth of Venus". I think it's a much different story than Red Tent. I'd say to give it a try. I usually don't slog through books that don't grab me from the beginning so as I remember it I did like Birth from the start. Susan aka LyekkaMarengl
