Lots of people love Bookshop Santa Cruz, in the downtown of that city, because it's clean and emphasizes new books. I prefer Logos, a two story warehouse where you can get lots of stuff on your wishlist cheap.
If you're in or near Reno, please stop in at Zephyr books on Virginia St south of the downtown casinos. Very well-organized non-fiction section compared to most dusty used-book stores. Nice folks determined to awaken some brains in this gambling town. Also these are pretty big stores in a small pretty town in the Californian foothills of the Sierra: Book Mine - (call for hours, they're short, and for directions) 10354 Argonaut Ln, Jackson - (209) 223-1283 Hein & Co Bookstore - (downtown, popular) 204 N Main St # A, Jackson - (209) 223-9076 I have a huge wishlist of books I just want to read cheap, so whenever I travel I hunt for mini-Powell's. But just Googling "Fresno used books" for example doesn't always get me some of the ones I don't find out about until I get to the town and ask around. So please, y'all, keep posting your recommendations, whether they're as exciting as City Lights or as big as Powell's or just a nice neighborhood hole-in-the-wall. Maybe we can start a set of entries in the database or files section of this group?? Anybody wanna help me with that???
