had a pretty good month, I read 5 books and listened to 2 audios for a total of
7 reads.

South of Broad - Pat Conroy - A+
I love the way Conroy describes his characters, surroundings and emotions. He
puts you right into the story.
This is a story of friendships through the years and what happens to each of
them.

The Bone Garden - Tess Gerritsen - A
This was a first time author for me and it won't be my last read by her. I very
much enjoyed this story that takes
place in the past and present. In the present, a skull and bones are found in
the backyard of a fixer upper
while Julia is digging a garden. The coroner says it's a case for the
historical society because the bones
are 200 years old. Letters are found by a descendant of the house and Julia and
Henry read the story that
unfolds 200 years ago.

Modoc: The Greatest Elephant that Ever Lived - Ralph Helfer A++
This is supposed to be a true story about a boy and an elephant born on the
same day in Germany. The
elephant is born into the circus and the boy to the elephant trainer of the
circus. They are raised together
and have a deep love and understanding of each other. They travel and go
through many trials including
separation for years. It is a very heartwarming story. There is some debate as
to whether this is
true or not, but even if only a couple of things are true, it makes a good
story.

Kiss the Girls - James Patterson - A
2nd in the Alex Cross series and I enjoyed it as much as the first one. This
one is a serial killer in North
Carolina called Casanova. He is a collector of beautiful women and then kills
them. There is also a
killer on the West Coast called the Gentleman Caller. The police discover a
link between the two and
Alex is called in to profile the case. It becomes very personal for him when
his niece Naomi is taken by
Casanova.

See You in a Hundred Years - NF - Logan Ward B
A husband and wife along with their 2 year old son decided to leave all the
trappings of present day and
move to a farmhouse and live as people did in the year 1900. They do a lot of
reading up on what and how
to do it and finally find just the right place. They have the electricity and
water cut off, dig an outhouse in
the yard and get moved in just in time to plant the garden that will keep them
alive through the winter. I
enjoyed reading about all their work and problems but there were some areas
that vexed me. They had
animals to help keep them alive as well such as goats and a horse to pull their
wagon but they didn't
really know much about "working" the animals. They stayed vegetarian so they
didn't have to slaughter
any animals and their families and neighbors respected what they were doing and
supported them. They
completed their experiment in the year they planned and it was fun to see how
much they learned from their
experience.

AUDIOS:

The Last Olympian - YA - Rick Riordan - B+
The final in the Percy Jackson series. It was a fun series.

Fearless - Diana Palmer - B
This was another first time author for me and I'll look for more of her also.
This was a suspense/romance.
A DA with health issues has evidence against a drug lord and is going to
testify against him. He is trying
to have her killed. She is sent to a farm where she grew up to work as everyone
else and hide until the
trial. Rodrigo is the foreman and puts her to work. They are each hiding who
they truly are.
