Initial attempt was to base implementation on BOOKKEEPER-25 and work on that
branch to add full support, but unfortunately that did not go far.
Hence, BOOKKEEPER-25 branch was used for initial reference, and this parallel
implementation was completed with inputs from Matthieu and Flavio.
