Usually audible, yes. I have set up a blog post that describes why it
happens and how to detect the bass distortions (with special samples
created for this purpose), including how to disassemble the Boom and how
to fix it. Grille removal is only the very first step and is actually
really easy if you have an appropriate tool. But actually it is easier
to listen because the cracks in the speaker surrounds are hard to see as
long as they sit in their place.
