Aha, could that trick for suppessing markup be placed in the docs somewhere 
(if it isn't already?).  I had to vary things a bit because my program 
output contains < and > so fully escaping to XML wasn't possible either, but 
a mix of just escaping where needed did the job nicely.  So... I still think 
a [programlisting] markup might be useful, pity we can't implement it with a 
template?
