IMO bullet lists should only be recognized with whitespace following
the bullet:
* foo [/bullet]
* bar [/bullet]
*baz [/not a bullet]
The current rule causes "*bold*" to be treated as non-bold only at the
beginning of a line, which interacts badly with line-breaking and
paragraph reflows. I know it's a breaking change, but the current
rule just isn't worth it.
