Try some superscrips and subscripts: x2, xi3, α2, βα, ⌊x⌋, ⌊α⌋, ⌈a⌉.

still displays as ?x?, ?a?, ?a?

until I check out the html4 symbols - which show OK - and after that the other 
symbols display right too!

(I've checked this three times, so I'm sure it is right.

PS Boxes with Boost libraries, section search are in a muddle on a big 
resolution 1600 x 1200 screen.  OK at 1024 x 768 :-)
