I've got the Netgear version of the same box. One of the things I liked is that it will spoof the MAC address of a connected computer as the WAN MAC address. This can be useful with Mediaone, if you've already connected with a single system - they don't need to know about the router.

Subject: [Boston.pm] DSL/Cable Modem router
On Amazon.com the other day, I noticed a 4-port Linksys Cable/DSL router
for 50% off list, with free shipping ,no tax and decided to try one.
Last night I installed it and it was _trivial_ . For those of you thinking
about Cable/DSL and want a home network, I highly recommend this product
or it's type. I had an OpenBSD/Sparc box running as a firewall but now
it's in it's own DMZ with the rest of the network behind the firewall.
1. It's small. I replaced a Sparc, and a hub with this tiny little thing
2. Web Browser configurable GUI on the LAN port only. The interface is
mostly intuitive, easy to use, and has some nice features like the
1 DMZ host option.
3. It does DHCP on both ends serving as a client on the WAN and server on
the LAN.
My only gripe is that the box requires you to upgrade the firmware from a
PC and that you cannot run DHCP on the LAN if you want to set up filtering
rules. The filters could be more sophisticated as well, but it does what
it does do very well.
The only problem you may experience is when you call Mediaone, etc. that
they may tell you that no, they need the LAN Mac address and when you
nicely try to tell them that no, they need the WAN Mac address they'll go
double-check to make sure you aren't an idiot.
So, anyway, if you are getting a Cable/DSL connection at home to do bigger
better faster more perl perl perl...buy one of these things as it's a good
deal. Linksys also just released a wireless access point with a range of
800 feet...just in time for your holiday wish list :)
