I live in Woburn on the Burlington line. Thus, the thought of a meeting here
in the 781 appeals to me. However, I'm not a splitter. I suppose all of us
have been thinking the same things:
* MetroWest.pm hardly exists and, besides, who wants to go to Framingham
willingly?
* The Cantabridgian pm is also nigh-non-existant and thus also not the
point.
* We all REALLY LIKE boston.pm; the meetings are lively, the topicality is
intense, and the members are part of the cutting edge of Perl culture. I
don't think any other city on the planet can have a pm meeting with "well,
here's the guy developing Perl 6's internals to talk about Perl6's
internals" and not have to hire him as a guest speaker at high rates.
* We're just bummed that we have to punch out on time (from jobs where that
isn't easy) and hustle through traffic to park & ride lots to take the T to
walk through construction to get to a meeting. We're car people (much as I
hate to face this reality myself, but I have put 50k miles on a car in the
past 2.5 years) and have certain qualms about the slo-mo triathalon.
* We're worried we may be imposing on boston.com's good graces sometimes.
* We'd like to have the majority of the same people meet on the northern
turf.
* ...but of course we're still willing to lump it if we can't keep the same
organization in the 'burbs.
No one wants to go through the process of creating a new organization
because, I suspect, that very process is what kills the old and really good
organization.
...and I have no ideas beyond that. I thought that, if I summarized, I'd
come up with a witty solution. Instead, I've only solidified my willingness
to truck into town because I learn so much at each meeting.
Speaking of which, do I owe dues?
