Perl/DBI Bioinformatics programmer position expected to be opening up soon
at Boston University, in the BioMolecular Engineering Research Center
(http://bmerc-www.bu.edu/), at 32 Cummington St, just off Comm Ave near
Kenmore Sq.

This is the same position I listed about a year ago. Starting salary is
around 40k, +/- a small amount depending on experience. It's in an
academic/research setting with excellent benefits and flexible hours.

Candidates should have solid Perl programming skills, but must be
capable of self guiding both their own projects and the expansion of
their skills. Good people skills and an ability to maintain focus on
priority projects in an environment where many people will throw
interesting distractions at you nearly daily also very important! A
solid understanding of _basic_ biology and genetics is a must.

The position can be viewed as an entry level bioinformatics position; it
is expected that a portion of your time will be spent learning more
advanced concepts in biology and developing bioinformatics skills. A
commitment of at least three years is expected. Skills in other
programming languages (particularly C or Lisp) a plus, but the primary
duties of this position will require daily use of your Perl skills not
only for developing new, and expanding existing, bioinformatics programs
and research, but also for interacting with MySQL databases and
maintaining the centers website (particularly web interfaces to our
databases and tools).

I'll be posting an official job description as soon as I get an
availability date and approval. I just wanted to give our local mongers
an advance heads up. I should be at the next tech meeting if anyone
wants some more information.

Thanks,
Sean
