Certainly, But, if we're talking about developer's editors with
high levels of functionality then don't they all have significant
learning curves?

At least as far as I'm concerned, the VAST majority of the functionality in most "programmers'" editors is irrelevant. The trouble I have with emacs is that to get at even the little bit of functionality I want I have to invest too much time.
