search google for this:
Can Java technology beat Perl on its home turf with pattern matching in
large files
dave cross got the perl code and it was bad. he was recompiling regexes
in a double level loop. there are several optimized versions in this thread:
http://use.perl.org/~davorg/journal/7752
this one shows perl code from scratch that is faster:
http://www.faqchest.com/prgm/perlu-l/perl-02/perl-0209/perl-020901/perl02091609_13385.html
and in all cases the perl code is much shorter and clearer. this is one
stupid case and there is no counterpoint on the sun site. that java
program is so bad looking as well with all that boilerplate OO code that
does little.
so you can call this java claim debunked. if someone points out that
page to you just show them those pages in return.
