Tom,
I work in both Perl and PHP on a regular basis as a web developer, and I believe I am in a position to comment (somewhat intelligently) on how and why PHP has taken "mind share" from Perl.
I live in Maine and I'm not able to attend meetings. However, I would like to contribute to a discussion of this topic.
