I very strongly suspect that your friends and relations who buy your POD book online have precisely half of no idea that a POD company gathering names and addresses might be in any way "scammy".


As someone who considers himself a professional cynic, I'd not suspect anything dodgy if a POD company asked me, as a book buyer, to set up an account. It's just The Done Thing when buying stuff online.

So, first I want to establish if it can be done or not.

Yes, what you want to do can be done. However, if I were to come across an online retailer doing it, I'd not buy from them because I can't be bothered to evaluate whether what they're doing really does protect my privacy, whereas I'm used to the idea of a username and password.
