Hey all, There's a writer's website that some friends of mine hang out at called AbsoluteWrite. They're a website for writers who want to help and get help from other writers. Anyway, they just recently got hosed by their web host. Seriously hosed. Apparently, their site got taken down and the host company refuses to make the database of all their data available to them so they can move their site to a new location. (apparently it's a small time host company and the guy who runs it is married to a woman who decided she wanted to start her own writer's website, which conveniently was announced about the same time that the host took down Absolute Write.) Anyway, the Absolute Write folks are trying to scrape together their data getting whatever they can from google caches and what not, and then piece it back together with a perl script or something. They can't pay, but I figured I'd pass the word along because one of you folks might be able to script this out in 20 minutes or something. If you can pull it off and set them up, let me know and I'll buy pizza for the mongers meeting after next (I already owe for the one coming up, so...) Anyway, you can read what they're looking for here: http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/archives/007593.html#128104 They say they're looking for a "database angel" and I don't know nothing about no databases, so I don't know if this is 20 minutes of putting together some canned scripts, or several weeks of custom hackery. If you can help great, lemme know what flavor pizza you like. If not, sorry for the post.
