Our client is building a world class infrastructure and platform for a
major portal that gets 15 million hits per day, and they need to bring
aboard a senior level Perl Developer with a strong database background to
join their data architecture and workflow team. This position has been
retained by Mindcircuit (Recruitment Placement Firm) as we are the client
partner onsite helping fill several Engineering openings.
Their platform supports robust search facility and they make advanced use
of web crawling and spidering within an application architecture that
leverages a custom framework and a web services layer. One of the charters
of your job would be innovation, because they are constantly creating new
prototypes to support current and new business initiatives.

What you will be doing:
* The Perl developer has to have extensive experience writing complex
Perl scripts (pushing DBI and DBD) to extract large volumes of
information from the database. They will be part of a team of senior
level Perl developers who are tasked with writing the queries that pull
from their large databases, which include Oracle, Sybase and DB2.
* Perform analysis, design, development, and unit testing of stored
procedures/Relational Database components, distributed components
(Java, C/C++) and Unix-based Perl and shell scripts, based on
requirements defined in technical specifications, while adhering to
developmental standards and procedures in a team environment.
* Share responsibility and ownership of the portal
* Work closely with R&D and business analytics teams
* Dream up and design new products and functionality
* Write code used by millions of people per day
* Not compromise on quality
* Work closely with other brilliant engineers on a daily basis
* Develop core technology, including the design/architecture of new
solutions and the refactoring and refinement of existing systems
* Mentor junior members of the team
* Serve as key architect for many key classes, protocols, and APIs
* Help shape the future of online shopping
Required Skills:
* Perl/mod_perl
* RDBMS fundamentals
* Proficiency in Object Oriented design and development
* Ability to formally communicate architectural designs and plans
* Experience working with developers and project/business owners
* Experience integrating open source technologies in application
development
Desired skills:
* Test-driven development
* Fundamentals in design patterns
* Participation in Agile development environment
* Template Toolkit experience
* BS in Computer Science or comparable experience
* Domain experience in n-tier web application development
* Working experience with web and networking protocols and concepts
