Massachusetts has just backpedaled on its support for open standards, and announced it will accept documents in Microsoft's OOXML:
http://www.oreillynet.com/onlamp/blog/2007/07/how_a_standard_can_kill_a_stan.html I hope this posting will be seen as relevant to the Perl Mongers list, a group committed to a particular open source system. The state needs to hear from constituents by July 20. A good summary of the non-open status of OOXML is here: http://fussnotes.typepad.com/plexnex/2007/06/achieving_openn.html I'm sure Microsoft has a rebuttal, but I don't believe they've responded to this particular document. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Andy Oram O'Reilly Media email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Editor 10 Fawcett Street voice: 617-499-7479 Cambridge, MA 02138-1175 fax: 617-661-1116 USA http://www.praxagora.com/andyo/ Stories at Web site: The Bug in the Seven Modules Code the Obscure The Disconnected ---------------------------------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________ Boston-pm mailing list [email protected] http://mail.pm.org/mailman/listinfo/boston-pm
