Harvard University is seeking a dynamic Sr. Software Engineer to be part of
our classroom technologies development team.
 
This is a Full-time, Director Hire Position based in Cambridge, MA.
 
The Instructional Computing Group (<http://icg.fas.harvard.edu/>)
collaboratively develops and maintains a custom course platform and offers
year-round training and consulting for faculty and teaching staff within
Harvard's Faculty of Arts and Sciences.  This developer is part of an
innovative technical design and development team that creates and maintains
web-based applications in support of teaching and learning and focuses on
tools for our course platform. The position leads and participates in the
analysis, design, programming, and testing of new applications within the
existing course platform framework, primarily using Perl in a UNIX-Apache
environment. The position also identifies and evaluates the feasibility of
adapting and integrating existing technologies and software, where
appropriate. It assists in maintaining and enhancing our technical
infrastructure and works closely with system administrators and other
developers to help maintain and debug existing applications.

Required Education, Experience, Skills

Degree in computer science or equivalent demonstrated experience. Graduate
degree preferred. 7+ years of IT experience, with 5+ years in object
oriented programming, with an emphasis on web application development.
Demonstrated experience in planning and overseeing technical development
projects, designing/specifying, and developing WWW applications.
Demonstrated expertise in Perl (preferred) or other languages used for web
application development (PHP, Python, Ruby, ASP, etc) or web application
frameworks (Ruby on Rails, Cocoon, etc). Must be familiar with databases
and SQL, preferably in an Oracle environment. Excellent oral and written
communications skills. High degree of commitment to collaboration and work
within a distinctly team-oriented environment. Java programming and Flash
programming experience a plus.
