Systems supported include a third party client/server library management system, online public catalogs, & a growing environment of digital library applications. Responsibilities include: Specification, programming, implementation; Maintenance of programs, scripts, & procedures written in Perl, shell scripts, & PLSQL; Implementation, maintenance, backup & recovery of high profile library applications; Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, to troubleshoot production failures & problems; Analysis & maintenance of tools & procedures used to monitor, tune, & develop metrics for library applications; Maintenance of a multi-instance environment for third-party applications. Qualifications & Requirements: BA with 5 years of professional level experience in development & implementation of production applications. Five years programming experience with UNIX, Perl, shell scripting required & PLSQL is preferred. Familiarity with databases & SQL, Oracle,& MySQL are required. Willingness to learn and support new technology is preferred and incumbent must be self-motivated with strong communication skills both orally and written. In addition must have strong problem solving skills as well as the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high volume, highly collaborative environment. The Systems Operations team in OIS is responsible for the development & support of a large, Unix-based suite of library applications. To achieve their goals, OIS staff collaborate with a wide variety of Harvard staff and committees including librarians, curators, and instructional technology staff on innovative projects and strategic initiatives that aim to integrate technology services and digital catalogs and content into the fabric of the university.
