Senior Web Developer
Brandeis University, Waltham


Responsibilities

Senior Web Developer evaluates requirements and determines appropriate  
architecture and designs and develops advanced web-based applications.  
They act as a critical technical leader on integation projects  
involving web applications, enterprise applications and data  
integration. This position will perform expert level web programming  
and help design the university's new web services data bus. This  
position performs the program design (implementation and backend) of  
new web-based initiatives  and enhances, recommends and  maintains  
appropriate functionality, security and architecture.

Essential duties include:

- Develops complex, mission critical web applications (internal and  
external) using almost exclusively OO Perl with occasional use of  
Java, TCL and other languages and with Oracle and mySQL databases or  
similar, and AOL, Apache, IIS web servers.
- Senior advanced technical expertise in Apache configuration and log  
analysis, expert SQL programming, Web Services, HTML and CSS are  
utilized.  Emphasis on creating secure web sites and applications with  
dynamic content.  Document programs and development work.  Keeps up to  
date with best practices and emerging trends.
- Responsible for delivery of applications which integrate tightly and  
enable the funtioning of enterprise systems like PeopleSoft and LATTE.
- Implements and manages multiple projects simultaneously to meet  
project and client deadlines.  Responsible for collaborating with  
clients on business and functional requirements.  Translate to  
development and technical requirements.  Develops prototypes and  
reviews with clients.  Set and manage expectations for deliverables  
and timelines. Supervises student assistants and independent  
contractors on short-term projects.


Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor degree, masters preferred, and a  
minimum 5 years experience.  Prior work experience may be substituted  
for education requirements.  In depth, expert, advanced knowledge of  
Perl, SQL, Web Services, LDAP, HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, Java, TCL,  
PHP.   Ability to author in Go-Live, Dreamweaver and Flash . Expertise  
knowledge of LDAP and Database structures. Strong interpersonal,  
written,  verbal  and self directed project management  skills and  
ability to communicate and work well with faculty, staff and students  
at the university. Demonstrated ability to work efectively as a member  
of a team of developers and independently; ability to help develop  
specifications for web projects; the ability to work with pre-defined  
technical/functional specifications or non-technical functional  
specifications.
