i beg to differ. andy last said he couldn't handle dealing with our
changes as he is focusing on the plugin stuff. that is independent of
the core loop afaict. most plugins will handle file level stuff like
gzip and other special files.

part of my design for the ack core is more testing using what i call
table driven testing. i have several existing examples in my modules and
i can go over them and discuss the general ideas involved. a generic
table driven tester can be developed by us and maybe put on cpan. so i
can talk about that if we don't do the ackathon.
