We are looking for a detail-oriented engineer to lead our Quality Assurance
team. This is not your typical QA role; the chief areas of responsibility
are in automated test definition and product feature clarification,
focusing on correctness, completeness and usability. QA must be proactive
not just in ensuring that the software works as defined, but that it is the
best possible product. This role does not primarily involve writing code,
but development experience is valuable for understanding classes of hazards
and solutions.

We're specifically looking for a QA tools engineer. This is someone who can
write and maintain a complex test automation infrastructure. Think Perl
coding, not WinRunner. If you are not a Perl coder - not just scripting -
do not bother to respond to this. We are looking for a Perl coder.

This is a "hands-on" position; the team lead will oversee the daily
activities of the QA group while continuing to perform most duties of a
member of the team.

The Lead QA works in a small team to ensure the correctness and usability
of our management interfaces, secure storage protocols, file systems,
routing and synchronization algorithms and tools to control a self-managing
network of servers. Automated tests are specified by QA, but implemented by
development. QA also works with product management to ensure coverage and
completeness of new product features.

A solid understanding of testing methodologies for web-based applications,
as well as excellent communication skills, are required. An understanding
of storage systems, file systems, and fault tolerance is desirable.
Experience in Linux, Unix and Windows is required. Knowledge of Extreme
Programming methodology is desirable. Language experience in Perl, Java or
C++ is required.

Requirements:

* Extremely rigorous attention to detail
* Clear and precise communications skills
* Assertive ownership of product quality
* Experience creating detailed automated acceptance test plans
* Experience in tools for testing web-based applications
* Experience working in a small-team environment
* Experience working on challenging large-scale software engineering projects
* Familiarity with both Windows and Unix environments
* Familiarity with software development concepts

Desirable experience:

* Record of delivering stable, reliable projects
* Experience in usability testing
* Experience with distributed systems and common faults
* Experience with fault-tolerant and highly-available systems

This is a permanent role.

I am a recruiter - I have been working with this company for seven years
and have made many placements with them.

The role is in Cambridge.

The company is a storage company focusing on sensitive information storage.

Pay Range - 100 - 120k.

NOTE: I also have standing orders to recruit ANY strong OOPerl developers
for their development team - these guys hire the best and are always willing
to talk with strong Perl developers. Anyone interested should send me their
resume as a Word attachment. Feel free to call me for further information.
