I would be interested in a social meeting.
I suspect that most people, like me, have their august weekends already booked
so I would suggest that this be kept to during the week.
If I may throw out a location idea I will note this place
http://www.atlanticbeergarden.com/
This is off of the silver line. Take the redline to south station and then 1 stop to the courthouse.
It is near the ICA museum.
Also: I have Dark Star in my NetFlix queue based on a suggestion from the last tech meeting. I haven't been watching many movies recently so I haven't gotten it yet but can make sure it arrives in time if anyone would like to grab the usual room at MIT and watch a movie.

hi all,

since our current temporary replacement fearless leader is abandoning us for our august tech meeting, it has fallen upon me, your social secretary, to organize a social event. so anyone have a suggestion for a venue? the usual suspects are brew pubs, bbq joints, etc. and preferably accessible
by the T but maybe we could carpool some if needed.

places we have invaded include john harvard's (very noisy), redbones (good food and beer), cambridge brewery (decent), the brewpub next to fenway (boston beer works iirc and only when the sox are on the road!),
sunset (great beer selection, so-so food).

we could go for a different menu type like a deli (zaftig's near coolidge corner is very good!). or asian (too many choices). maybe dim sum? there is a good one on mishawaum in woburn (forgot the name but i know the place). chinatown is good but very slow to get in on weekends.

an alternative would be a gathering in someone's yard. i just moved and it could be done here as we have a bigger yard and plenty of folding tables. we would need to rent chairs and order bbq (blue ribbon is close
by and great!). it would be byob too.

and the date is open as well so we don't need to necessarily gather on
aug. 11.

let me know what you think and post it to the list.

thanx,

uri
