Minor correction, but I have no list of meeting attendees, and even if I did, I wouldn't be quite that restrictive when approving LinkedIn membership requests. (I consider mailing list participants as much a part of the group as meeting attendees.)
As long as the applicant is in the Greater Boston Area, and their profile doesn't suggest a recruiter, they get added. Others get a note asking them to explain why they want to join a regional group if they aren't from the region.
We have referred headhunters to the posting rules for the mailing list and jobs.perl.org.
Correct. And their group membership is declined.
The Wiki remains the official central site to which others point.
And accordingly the LinkedIn group description includes a link to the wiki.
We do NOT have a Meetup...
That's because they charge a monthly fee (or at least did the last time I checked).
If we need a non-wiki calendar, I'd see Gcal as more Open than FB.
Using Google Calendar, or anything that lets you easily publish iCalendar events would be great. (Somewhere I have a prototype web form built with Boston.pm in mind that uses JavaScript to construct an iCalendar event, which can then be cut-and-pasted to an email.)
It seems like forever (more than 10 years) that we've been hearing the promise of being able to subscribe to events that get automatically added to our personal calendars, but aside from a few specific realms where this works, it hasn't really happened.
Our Resources - boston.pm.org wiki boston-pm list and -announce list #boston.pm on irc.perl.org Boston.pm group on linkedin (*) Boston.PM page on FB (*) #boston.pm and @Boston.pm Twitter ? (*) = proposed
Fleshed out with some URLs and text, that would make a good thing to periodically post to the list to remind members of. (I've been thinking of doing something like this for BLU.) For example, with hardly anyone joined (or listening) on the IRC channel, it provides minimal benefit.
