Responsibilities

Technology Services at Brandeis University is looking for a Web
Developer. This position will develop web sites, web-based applications and
work on integration projects involving web applications, enterprise
applications and data integration. This position will provide web
programming and maintain the data structure and functionality of the
university web sites and associated media. This position participates in
the development of the program design (implementation and backend) of new
web-based initiatives and enhances, recommends and maintains appropriate
functionality, security and architecture. This position provides expertise
in the analysis, design, development and maintenance of web applications,
web sites and integration projects.

Job Functions:

- Develops web applications and web sites (internal and external) using
  TCL, PHP, Perl, Java or similar languages and with Oracle and mySQL
  databases or similar, and AOL, Apache, IIS web servers. Expertise in web
  site development skills, including HTML and CSS. Emphasis on creating
  secure web sites and applications with dynamic content. Document programs
  and development work.  Keeps up to date with best practices and emerging
  trends.

- Develops and implements applications using integration technologies such
  as XML, XSL and RSS to provide dynamic information and content to web
  sites.  Evaluate newer integration technologies with members of the WTS
  team including web-services and messaging and service-oriented
  architectures.

- Implements and manages multiple projects simultaneously to meet project
  and client deadlines. Responsible for collaborating with clients on
  business and functional requirements. Translate to development and
  technical requirements. Develops prototypes and reviews with clients. Set
  and manage expectations for deliverables and timelines.

- Assists in the formulation of web development planning, project planning,
  upgrade and migration planning. Contribute to department goals and
  objectives including long-term strategy.

- Supervises student assistants and independent contractors on short-term
  projects.

Qualifications

- Experience with HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, Java, TCL, PHP, Perl, LDAP,
  SVN, XMLRPC, SOAP.

- Ability to author in Go-Live, Dreamweaver and Flash.

- Working knowledge of graphics tools such as Adobe Photoshop. Knowledge of
  LDAP and Database structures including course management systems.

- Strong interpersonal, written, verbal and self directed project
  management skills and ability to communicate and work well with faculty,
  staff and students at the university.

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team of
  developers and independently; ability to help develop specifications for
  web projects; the ability to work with pre-defined technical/functional
  specifications or on-technical functional specifications.
