A ten year old website is updating it's look and needs to update the
Perl internals to match, not discarding completely,

I would recommend updating to Perl 5.12.3 of course ...

Hi Bill,
Thanks for offering, and sorry for the very late reply -- I lost the
tail end of this thread in my inbox.
Here's my job description:

Job Title: Web Application Developer for social app
Company Name: Internicity, Inc. (QuickTopic.com)
Location: Lexington, MA
Terms of Employment: Contract, possibly long-term
Compensation: competitive and based on experience
Hours: part-time
Onsite: no
Description:
Strong web app development programmer with Perl experience needed to
initially help implement a complete visual re-design of
QuickTopic.com, which is a social application (web boards) for general
users. Follow-on work available if the fit is good.
We're in the latter stages of implementing an entirely new look to the
site. The work involves refactoring code to implement new visual
layouts with emphasis on CSS, further separation of presentation from
business logic, and many miscellaneous tasks.
There's a long and diverse list of available follow-on work across the
entire stack and in diverse functional areas, including architecting
for scalability, cloud computing, payment systems, a mobile app, and
adding new features -- all depending on your fit, skill set, and
adaptability.
The LAMP-ish stack includes Perl 5.8.9, javascript (jQuery), Apache,
MySQL, on FreeBSD.
Skills desired:
Excellent sense of the user experience.
Experience implementing large web apps.
Good understanding of object-oriented Perl.
Self-motivated and collaborative.
