The successful Sr. Feeds Engineer will work within Technical Operations to maintain and extend the features and functionality of a cutting edge, custom feeds scheduling engine that manages thousands of financial jobs per day. To maintain this mission critical function, this person must have strong troubleshooting skills. Requires advanced knowledge of UNIX (Linux) utilities. The Sr. Feeds Engineer will develop/maintain high quality Perl modules focusing on standardized, re-usable code. The Senior Feeds Engineer will interface with development, QA, and systems groups to provide recommendations/solutions on complex technical issues/tasks. Requires strong ability to communicate technical findings to various stakeholders and work in a time sensitive, market driven environment. The Senior Feeds Engineer will provide guidance and mentoring to junior Feeds team members. Specific Job Responsibilities Day-to-day responsibilities * Troubleshoot missed events and failures; file transfers, process executions * Manage the ticket queue (triage tickets appropriately, work tickets that need attention) * Participate in on-call rotation adhering to response time SLA's for all critical alerts Tools management * Build tools which assist in monitoring, executing, and gathering metrics. * Work closely with the Systems Architect to manage feeds databases (MySQL) * Independently performs analysis to develop, implement and maintain high level designs for assigned projects. Automation management * Write scripts for new automation * Follow SOP's to ensure the automation environment remains in excellent functional shape (i.e. file archiving, review of outstanding issues, re-validation of new scripts and processes, etc.) * Remains current on industry standards and advances within areas of expertise. Manage Quarterly/annual processing * Execute quarterly and annual processes (1099Q generation, Statements, Member Reward Sweeps, etc.) Documentation/workflow management * Document workflow processes in the Feeds Wiki * Isolate inefficiencies within current workflow, improve and document improvements, train feeds operators Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar area of study * 5+ years of Shell/Perl programming "relative" experience in Unix like environment * 5+ years of experience as Unix "power user" with ability to manipulate files and search for files and file contents in an efficient way using command line tools * Ability to participate in a 24x7 pager rotation and quickly attend to multiple priorities * Ability to work non-standard hours from time to time * Excellent verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications * Familiar with SQL, Oracle and MySQL databases Sallie Mae is a federal government contractor.
