hi all,
recently i asked damian conway if he would be interested in visiting
boston and doing a talk here. he would come if we can cover his local
expenses and his schedule works for a visit. this is something toronto
has done a couple of times. if he just comes here for a talk his
expenses would be about $1k (hotel and plane). he said he may have a
paying client here and if he does, we would only need to cover his hotel
for 2 nights which is about $500. given we had 70 people at his last
talk here (which had the infamous foil hat competition) this would be an
easy expense to cover. also some of you work at places that could donate
$100 or more towards this. what is the general feeling out there for
supporting a damian visit?
one other idea is to also have an day or two of course taught by damian
and open to the public. in the past this was about $500/person per day
and we needed about 12 as a minimum to sign up. here are the courses he
could teach:

if you are new to perl or this list and haven't heard much about damian
conway, he is arguably the best perl trainer on the planet and one of
the most interesting and fun speakers around.
thanx,
uri
