Does anyone have any recommendations for a good DSL provider in Boston? (Allston) I was about to go against my better judgement and enroll with Comcast, but they made the process painful enough that I came to my senses.
belg4mit, What kind of experiences did you have with Comcast? I'm curious, because I was thinking about switching to them. I live in Arlington, and use verizon as an ISP. In my experience, Verizon has been pitiful to deal with. I began as a DSL customer, because Verizon claimed that FIOS was not available in my area. Neighbors on either side of my house had FIOS, but verizon insisted that it wasn't an option for me. This didn't stop Verizon's salespeople from calling (or visiting) and offering to sell me a FIOS upgrade. Twice, I tried to sign up, only to be told later that the service wasn't available. After about two years, Verizon finally figured out how to get FIOS service to my house. A few months ago, I tried to review verizon's service offerings (to see if they had added any packages that might be more appropriate for me). I was told "Sorry FIOS isn't available in your area", despite being a FIOS customer. In my book, Verizon is pretty terrible. Comcast, on the other hand, seems like a better company. Last year, a storm knocked down a tree limb in my hard, and the falling tree limb took down a cable wire leading to the house. The service hookup was from a prior occupant, and I wasn't sure which company provided it. I spent a week trying to get Verizon to look at the downed cable in my yard, with no success. I called Comcast about the downed wire; within a few minutes, someone had taken my report of the downed wire, and they fixed it the next day. Considering I'm not a comast customer, that really impressed me. Just from that experience, Comcast's service seemed to be an order of magnitude better than Verizon's. So I'm wondering what kind of experience you had with Comcast. Steve
