I can agree with that.
Especially since i said for pure-OO exploration, Perl5 native OO was a
poor choice, and the right language was SmallTalk :-)

For Perl native use where speed matters, an array of structs with
next_index, prev_index attributes is probably optimal. That's a Linked
List with a harsh Fortran accent - been there, done that, in Fortran -
hardly elegant OO as requested.
